Thứ hai, 27/11/2023 - 12:32 PM

2024 is predicted to be a year of recovery and growth for the global pangasius industry. According to Mr. Gorjan Nikolik - Rabobank's Director of Fisheries Analysis - global pangasius output is expected to reach 3.2 million tons by 2024. Vietnam continues to lead in global pangasius export output at 52 million tons, followed by India, Indonesia and Bangladesh.

Pangasius is a type of long-bodied catfish that lives mainly in freshwater, distributed mainly in the Mekong River basin. Pangasius has rich meat, soft and firm texture and is often sold as fillet. This is a nutritious dish that can be prepared in many ways such as deep-fried, steamed, grilled... White catfish fillet is the fish meat that has had red meat, fat, and bones removed. Ranked second is the US market when pangasius exports to this market reached 184 million USD. VASEP said that the rapid decrease in inventory in the US combined with the effect of the event of Vietnam and the US upgrading their comprehensive strategic partnership is a positive signal for pangasius exports to accelerate in the last months. year.

In the EU, pangasius exports to many markets still grew by double digits compared to the same period last year: Sweden increased by 28%, Germany increased by 19%, and Denmark increased by 18%. In particular, some markets recorded very high growth in pangasius exports such as: Estonia increased by 138%, Finland increased more than 11 times.

By September 2023, pangasius exports brought in nearly 167 million USD, up 1% over the same period last year. In October 2023, this type of seafood continued to recover with a turnover of 189 million USD, an increase of 5% over the same period last year.

From the above positive signs, it can be hoped that Vietnam's pangasius exports will recover, helping to narrow the decline gap compared to the same period last year and potentially reach a turnover of 2 billion USD in this year.
