Vietnamese agricultural products: Vietnamese sea grapes
What is sea grapes?
Sea grapes are seaweed green in color, fresh and beautiful. The small, round, gel-like nutrients-rich grape seeds grow on branches much like a bunch of green grapes. Because they not only look like caviar but they also contain many nutrients, they are also called green caviar. There are many names for this agricultural product. In particular, they can only live in a clean environment, at the same time avoiding sunlight, growing well in conditions of salinity above 30%, temperature level of 23 - 29 degrees and pH index of 7.5 - 8.
Seaweed is a type of seaweed naturally distributed mainly in Southeast Asia, Japan and the Pacific Ocean. Compared to Japan (Okinawa island) and the Philippines, the size of Vietnamese sea grapes is smaller, but Vietnam has now successfully grown sea grapes of the same species from Japan.
How to use
Sea grapes are salty and crunchy, so many people often choose to eat sea grapes directly to keep the flavor and nutritional value intact
Example: eating with Sushi - Sashimi, Sea grape salad, dip in roasted sesame sauce
What nutritional ingredients does seagrapes have?
Known as the green caviar of plants, although sea grapes are small in size, they contain many nutrients that are good for the body such as Protein, Calcium, Iron, Vitamin A, Vitamin B, calcium... so they are not. It only stops at making food but also helps users prevent many diseases.
- Good for cardiovascular
- Provides fiber (weight loss, beautiful skin, no constipation)
- Avoid the risk of diabetes
- Prevent cancer
- Good for the thyroid
- Enhance immunity
There are several types of sea grapes
Currently, sea grapes are divided into two main types: fresh sea grapes and dehydrated sea grapes.
- Fresh sea grapes can be stored in the refrigerator for 3 to 5 days.
- Dehydrated sea grapes are stored in zipper and vacuum sealed and can be stored for 6 months in normal temperature, and 12 months if stored in reefer condition. When using, just soak in water for 3 to 5 minutes for at least 2 times.
Even though the sea grapes are dehydrated, when soaked in water they will bloom and be as fresh as before. Dehydrated sea grapes still retain their nutrients, flavor and crispness. Therefore, dehydrated sea grapes have a higher price and are often used for long-term preservation and export.
Sea grape production process
Seaweed growing season
With sea grapes, it can be clear all year round because it only needs to meet the conditions of salinity above 30%, temperature level of 23 - 29 degrees and pH index of 7.5 - 8 and the bottom of the pond has sand or sand mixed with mud...
But please limit seaweed farming in the rainy season because the rain will make the farming efficiency not reach a high rate
.
Planting density
The appropriate density for farming in sea grapes is about 200 kg for 500m2 square, equivalent to about 0.2kg for 1 blister, 500m2 is about 1000 blisters.
- There are 3 main methods of growing seaweed: planting it directly on the bottom of the lake, on the floor, and on a blisters:
- Direct planting method on the bottom: use bamboo or wooden splints to fix the seaweed branches to the bottom of the lake, distance 40cm x 40cm, 200kg/500m2. With this method, sea grapes will grow very quickly, but when harvested, it will require a lot of labor.
- Method of looking at the floor: make a wooden floor 50cm x 30cm 5cm from the bottom. Take sand and build it up then plant it directly on the bottom. This method of planning is quick as grapes grow slowly due to lack of nutrients.
- Mesh method: sew 2 pieces of net into a 0.3m x 0.6m frame to fix the sea grapes in the mesh then release them in order of rows in the shirt. This method grows well and is easy to harvest, but the cost is higher than the other two methods.
Check the growth of algae every 2-3 days to remove impurities, fish, and crabs. Sea grapes are easy to grow to maturity and can be harvested after 3 months of cultivation.
