ADDED VALUE TO EACH PRODUCT FROM VIETNAMESE COCONUT

of the province's key agricultural product value chains led by Mr. Nguyen Van Quoi as the leader of the supervision team, clearly evaluating the added value from each product in the Ben Tre coconut chain.


From pre-processing stage

The added value of coconut farmers for 1,000 coconuts with revenue accounting is from 4.45 to 6.47 million VND/1,000 coconuts; Intermediate costs account for 9 - 10% (mainly fertilizer accounts for 94 - 96%); Added value accounts for 89 - 91% of revenue at about 3,977 - 5,886 VND (price at the time of monitoring). At a general level, it shows that farmers selling dried coconut products create 1.48 times higher added value than fresh coconuts, mainly because the selling price of dried coconuts is 1.4 times higher. Compared to selling fresh coconuts, the intermediate cost is only 1.2 times higher.

 

 

The added value of households collecting fresh coconuts (level 1) reaches a revenue of about 5.1 million VND/1,000 coconuts, at this stage the added value is 692 thousand VND, accounting for 13.49% of revenue; Meanwhile, revenue from collecting fresh coconuts (level 2) is 6.3 million VND/1,000 coconuts with added value accounting for 17.09% of revenue, equivalent to 1,070,000 VND. The revenue of households collecting dried coconuts is 7.3 million VND/1,000 coconuts and at this stage the added value accounts for 12.7% of revenue, equivalent to 934,000 VND.

 

The average revenue at facilities processing 1,000 coconuts is 8.44 million VND, added value accounts for 23.95% of revenue, about 2,020,720 VND; Meanwhile, revenue from selling peeled dried coconuts for export is 8.75 million VND/1,000 coconuts with added value accounting for 26.86% of revenue at about 2,350,000 VND. Although selling coconut fruit for export is more profitable than selling for processing, it will not continue to create added value.

 

To the processing stage

 

The research results have shown the ratio of the volume of raw processed products from coconut/1,000 coconuts to finished products, including 378kg of white coconut meat, 270 liters of coconut water, 200 kg of coconut shells, 1,000 shells. coconut and 48 kg of silk shell.

Revenue from producing 1 ton of desiccated coconut is 44.8 million VND/ton, creating added value accounting for 28.5%, about 12,790,000 VND, while revenue from producing 1 ton of coconut fiber is 5.4 million VND ( 3.5 million VND of finished coir fiber - main product and 1.9 million VND of coco peat - by-product) also promptly created added value accounting for 24.1% of revenue with a value of 1,308,500 VND. 

 

While the revenue from producing 1 ton of sintered coal is about 7.2 million VND/ton, the added value accounts for 18.1% of revenue, equivalent to 1,301,100 VND. For the activated carbon production stage, revenue reached 34.67 million VND/ton, creating high added value, accounting for 57.4% of revenue, equivalent to 19,900,300 VND. The revenue from producing 1 ton of finished nata de coco is 8 million VND/ton, creating added value accounting for 45.5% of revenue with a value of 3,638,000 VND.
